Sleep is essential for your health and well-being. If you're struggling with snoring, daytime fatigue, or other sleep issues, a sleep study can help our experts find the right diagnosis and treatment for you. White River Health offers two convenient options: an In-Lab Sleep Study or an At-Home Sleep Study. A sleep study may be used to diagnose common sleep disorders such as, Circadian Rhythm Disorder, Insomnia, Narcolepsy, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and Restless Leg Syndrome.

In-Lab Sleep Studies: The Gold Standard in Diagnosis

An In-Lab Sleep Study, or polysomnography, is a comprehensive test performed in a controlled, comfortable environment under the supervision of a trained sleep technician.

Why choose an In-Lab Sleep Study?

  • Comprehensive Data: This study monitors a wide range of factors, including brain waves, eye movements, and leg movements, to diagnose a broader range of sleep disorders beyond sleep apnea.
  • Expert Monitoring: A sleep technician is on-site to ensure the equipment stays in place and that the study runs smoothly throughout the night.
  • Accuracy: Real-time supervision and more extensive data collection make this the most accurate way to diagnose complex sleep issues.

What to expect: You'll spend the night in a private room at our clinic that feels like a hotel room. A technician will place sensors on your head and body to monitor your sleep patterns. You'll be able to get up and use the restroom if needed, and our team will be available to help you throughout the night. After the study, a board-certified sleep physician will interpret your results and send a report to your primary care or ordering provider.

Subheading: At-Home Sleep Studies: Your Bed, Your Comfort

An At-Home Sleep Study is a simple, convenient way to test for sleep apnea from the comfort of your own bed.

Why choose an At-Home Sleep Study?

  • Convenience: You can perform the study on your own schedule without needing to travel to a clinic.
  • Familiarity: Sleeping in your own bed can lead to a more natural night's sleep, providing more accurate results.
  • Cost-Effective: This option is typically less expensive than an in-lab study and is often covered by insurance.

What to expect: You'll pick up a small, portable device from our clinic. We'll give you clear instructions on how to wear the sensors and equipment (like a finger probe and chest belt) for one night. Simply follow your normal bedtime routine and return the device the next day. A sleep specialist will then analyze the data and share the results with your doctor.

Subheading: Which Option Is Right for You?

Your doctor will help you decide which type of study is best for your specific symptoms and health history.

  • If your doctor suspects obstructive sleep apnea, an At-Home Sleep Study may be the first step.
  • If your case is more complex, or your doctor suspects a disorder other than sleep apnea (such as restless leg syndrome or narcolepsy), an In-Lab Sleep Study is the recommended choice.
  • A report will be sent to your family doctor outlining recommended treatment including CPAP or InspireTM Therapy
